Dr. Shirley Boone-Sanford joined us to discuss Building Healthy Relationships.   Dr. Boone-Sanford has been helping individuals overcome obstacles and live more fulfilling lives through psychotherapy for over 14 years. She earned both her Doctorate and Master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She enjoys working with mood disorders, relationship issues, and women’s issues. Dr. Boone-Sanford is dedicated to helping individuals heal from past difficulties, grow as individuals, and feel empowered to fulfill their true potential.

Rett Syndrome with Ayme Sanchez

Based on the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke’s website:

 

 

  • Rett syndrome affects one in every 10 to 15-thousand female births
  • Although, Rett syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the X chromosome, it is not inherited.
  • Individuals with Rett syndrome often exhibit autistic-like behaviors in the early stages

 

 

Based on the information I have read about Rett, the milestones in my opinion seems to be a cross between Down syndrome and autism.

Something More with Chuck Adams

Chuck Adams has never been afraid of a challenge.  In fact, most times, Adams, a lifelong resident of Mattituck , NY , has relished a good challenge.  ‘Something More’, is the ultimate test of his “can-do” spirit.  Adams, 53, was born with a severed spinal cord. He is paralyzed from the waist down and has used a wheelchair his entire life.

 

He has been a Vice President of Marketing in the banking world, and is sports journalist with the Times-Review Newspapers and Cablevision. He is also currently a Corp Rep for BJ’s Wholesale Club.  His novel, the first of a planned series, is the fictional love story of Bobby Sanders and Kimberly Wells.

We have all either battled with or know someone dear to us who is battling with some type of addiction, whether it is alcohol, drugs, over the counter medication, and/or cigarettes.  Statistics show that nearly 1 in 10 Americans over the age of 12 are classified with substance abuse or dependence.  Of the 22.2 million Americans who needed treatment for illicit drugs or alcohol, only 3.9 million received it.  Approximately 135,000 thousand people die each year because of alcohol and drugs.

From Tragedy to Triumph with J. Santana

Many (if not all) teens struggle with some form of social acceptance, no matter how much we tell our children, “just be yourself.”  They are dealing with the pressures of finding themselves, coupled with trying to fit into what is considered to be “acceptable or the norm,” on top of what everyone else wants them to be. 

 

Jeremy Santana was raised in one parent household along with three brothers and an only sister; he mom was devoted to making sure her children knew the word of God.  He started to lead a double life, assuming this was acceptable by his peers.  He eventually made a complete turnaround entering into adulthood.  Various circumstances led him back to the church.

Changing Places with June Rochelle

Just over seven (7) years ago, gospel artist, June Rochelle’s daughter was born with a rare condition called, omphalocele.  Omphalocele is where a baby is born with its organs such as the liver and intestines on the outside of his or her body.   Two types of omphalocele:  A “small” type of omphalocele is a protrusion of a small portion of the intestine only this occurs in one (1) out of every 5,000 live births.  A “large” type of omphalocele is a protrusion of the intestines, liver, and other organs this occurs in one (1) out of every 10,000 live births.

The Kept Ones with Bunny DeBarge

Balance - Career as gospel artist and Family with Deidra Hughes

Deidra Hughes is a proud mom of two small girls, a wife, and she is devoted to spreading Gods word through her voice.  Deidra started her music career at the age of 20, following her parent’s, and Joleen Vander Maten, footsteps.  Her ministry started long before her twenties.  At the start of her career she began ministering from coast to coast for two years with Roger Breland and Truth.  During her travels with Truth, she performed over 300 concerts a year in front of thousands of different cultures and backgrounds.  A few of her travels were to the Philippines, Africa, and Hong Kong.

The Soul of a Survivor with Chandra Leigh Brown

Chandra Leigh Brown is a woman that could easily spent her life with a victim mentality, thrown in the towel, and given up.  In 2002, my guest was in what could have been deadly hit and run accident that left her on life support for 2 1/2 weeks.  She was not expected to live; she was ejected 50 feet from the passenger window and landed on her head.  Although, it was and still is challenging she refuse to give up.  She was given a second chance that gave her a new appreciation on life.  Chandra was named the International Chairperson for Disabled Individuals for the Oprah Winfrey for Nobel Peace Prize Movement, in 2006.  She is a survivor, entrepreneur, advocate, author, and motivational speaker.
