Previously on The Yvonne Pierre Show: Two of many reasons why we should understand invisible disabilities and that is to enlighten those without what their loved ones are feeling and how to respond, on the other hand enlighten those with disabling illness why their loved ones sometimes respond the way they do. Since most living with a chronic condition do not always “look” sick to us, we find ourselves struggling to believe their limitations are real. Even when our friend or family member tells us they are unable work, attend a gathering, shop, cook, clean, etc., we often disregard what they are saying, because we think they “look” fine!

Chronic Care in America reported that nearly 1 in 2 Americans has a chronic condition of one kind or another, 96% of them live with an illness that is invisible, and 60% are between the ages of 18 and 64. Based on the statistics nearly 133 million American has some form of an “Invisible Disability.” What are invisible disabilities? Our guest Wayne Connell share insightful information about invisible disabilities.

Wayne Connell joined us to share him and his wife’s story, in addition to informative information about understanding invisible disabilities. Wayne Connell is the founder and president of “The Invisible Disabilities Advocate.” The Invisible Disabilities Advocate strives to help friends and family better understand chronic illness and pain, as well as learn how to be a source of encouragement and support.

IDA offers articles, booklets, pamphlets, links, an online support group, a discount bookstore, t-shirts and more to help you and your loved ones forge the journey with limiting conditions.

For more information about Wayne, Sherri (his wife) visit http://www.invisibledisabilities.org/. As mentioned on the show, IDA’s Cleaner Indoor Air campaign, visit http://www.cleanerindoorair.org/ for details.
